Guide for business owners

What does a website cost in Croatia? Three prices, one answer.

· 7 min read · from Rovinj

You asked three people what a website costs. One said €200. Another said €1,500. The third said “it depends” and never got back to you.

They’re all right — they just aren’t talking about the same thing. Here’s what sits behind each price, which costs come later, and how to work out what a site really costs you over five years, not just on day one.

Price ranges in Croatia

These are rough ranges from the public price lists of Croatian studios and freelancers in 2026. They’re not any one company’s prices — just what you’ll roughly hear once you start asking:

  • Yourself, on a site builder (Wix and similar): the build is “free”, but the subscription runs roughly €15–40 a month, every month.
  • Freelancer, simple site: roughly €200–1,500, one-off.
  • Studio or agency, business site: roughly €500–3,000.
  • Web shop: from roughly €2,000 upwards.
  • Monthly “website as a service”: roughly €50–150 a month.

For most small businesses — a plumber, a hairdresser, a konoba, a garage, an accountant — what you actually need is a simple presentation site. Not a web shop, not a portal. One to five pages that say what you do, where, and how to reach you.

What drives the price up

  • Who writes the text. The biggest hidden item. “Send us your text” means you do the work — and the text will read like it was written by someone who isn’t a writer.
  • Photos. Real photos of your work are worth more than any design. People recognise stock photos.
  • Languages. In Istria a second language is often the best-value line on the quote — German, Italian or English brings customers your competitors don’t see. If you’re foreign-run, the Croatian version is what local customers expect.
  • Features. A web shop, online bookings, user accounts. If you don’t need them, don’t pay for them.

The costs that come later

The build price is what you see. This is what arrives later, on an invoice or on your card:

  • Domain (yourbusiness.hr or .com): usually €10–25 a year. You can’t avoid it — and it should be registered to you, not to the designer.
  • Hosting: from €0 for simple static sites to €50–200 a year for WordPress.
  • Maintenance: WordPress needs regular updates. Someone has to do them — you, or someone you pay.
  • Subscription: with site builders and monthly plans, a cost that never ends.

The five-year math

A €50 monthly subscription looks like small change. Multiply it by 60 months:

  • Subscription at €50 a month: 50 × 60 = €3,000 — and the site still isn’t yours. Stop paying and it disappears.
  • One-off build at €900 + domain at €15 a year: 900 + 75 = €975 — and the site is yours.

The figures are an example, not a quote — but the ratio is typical. For a simple site you don’t change every week, a one-off build is almost always cheaper over a few years.

Five questions before you pay

These five questions reveal more than any price list:

  • Who is the domain registered to? It has to be you. If it’s the designer, your address on the internet isn’t yours.
  • Can I leave and take the site with me? If the answer is “no” or “it’s complicated”, you’re really renting it.
  • What do I pay every year? Ask for a list, with amounts.
  • Who writes the text and prepares the photos? If it’s you, count your own time too.
  • How fast does it load on a phone? Ask to see a site they’ve built, on your phone, on mobile data.

So what does it cost with us?

For small businesses we give the price after you’ve seen the demo — it depends on what you need, and the demo is free. What’s always the same: done for you (we write the text), yours for good(the domain is in your name) and no subscription (you pay once; the only recurring cost is the domain). Frequently asked questions

How much does a simple website for a small business cost in Croatia?

According to the public price lists of Croatian studios and freelancers, a simple presentation site for a small business usually costs between €400 and €1,500, one-off. Below that you usually get a template you fill in yourself; above it you’re paying for a web shop, bookings or a lot of pages.

Is it better to pay once or monthly?

A monthly plan has no big upfront cost, but it never stops. A €50 monthly subscription over five years comes to €3,000, and the site still isn’t yours. If you don’t need constant changes, a one-off build is almost always cheaper.

What are the yearly costs of a website?

The domain, usually €10–25 a year. Hosting can be free for simple static sites; for WordPress it typically runs €50–200 a year. Add maintenance if someone charges you for it.

How long does it take to build a website?

For a simple small-business site — a few days to two weeks. The usual delay isn’t the build but waiting for text and photos, so ask who prepares them.

See the site first. Then we talk price.

Send us the word DEMO, what you do and which town you’re in. We’ll build a demo site for your business, free. Don’t like it — you owe nothing.

P.S. The most expensive website isn’t the €3,000 one. It’s the one you pay for every month, for years — and that vanishes the day you stop.
